Court finds The Pirate Bay guilty

To start off if anyone recalls the time when RapidShare was sued for hosting copyrighted material uploaded by users. In Germany, the laws are not as anal about copyrighted material as United States' laws. Meaning downloading and uploading is not highly monitored and you can get away with hosting illegal files on your server. The court made a statement in favor to RapidShare indicating that the website is not responsible for any files being uploaded by their users. RapidShare representative made a comment stating, "we do not monitor or filter the files that users upload and never will, this is part of our service". This time there is another law suite but this not in favor of the website.

The Pirate Bay is a large torrent tracker website which allows users to upload and download torrents. These torrents then used to connect multiple computers together to share resources (videos, pictures, music, etc.). The court analyzed the website and their hosting Cyberbunker. Instead of closing down The Pirate Bay website the court told Cyberbunker president that hosting this website is illegal and the fine will go towards the owner of the hosting company. The fine declared by the court is 250 thousand euro for every broken law and the president of the company Sven Olaf Kamphuis may go to jail for up to two years. This is the first time the court found the hosting company guilty.

Sven Olaf Kamphuis personally told journalists that he had no notification in regards to the court and that The Pirate Bay is only a search engine and not the file hosting website. This is why The Pirate Bay is not breaking any laws. Cyberbunk is a large hosting company which allows clients to transfer files anonymously without tracking and a guarantee confidentiality.

The Pirate Bay began to have problems last year when the court found four owners of the website guilty and fined them $3.5 million dollars and jail time for one year. After this, the four owners decided to sell their website to someone else and in short few months a Swedish company Global Gaming Factory X AB became the new owner of The Pirate Bay website. In 2009, the website change their resource and instead of being the central torrent tracker and became a part of the Anonymous Internet project I2P.

Foxconn and iPhone 4G are chased by few misfortunes

Buying this or that product in the store very few ask themselves the manufacturing process the product went through. Consumers trust well established brands and assume that if the product is engineered with highest quality standards then the workers are compensated in the same way. If the same company engineering the product was to manufacture it then very few consumers would be able to afford the actual product due to high cost. Instead quality brands outsource cheaper manufacturers to produce their invention/innovation.

One of the largest companies manufacturing electronic devices is Hon Hai Precision Industry, also known as Foxconn from Taiwan. Foxconn manufactured items, such as: Mac mini, iPod, iPhone, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Kindle. Also, the company is doing work with various other well-known brands, like Motorola, Cisco, Intel, Dell and Hewlett-Packard. At the same time Foxconn produces their own motherboards and video cards under their brand.

As expected, Foxconn is located in China a communist country. The company is glad to receive contracts from oversees investors to apply cheap labour and produce high quality products. Foxconn is far from heaven as a place of work. Recently, the company has been accused of child labour. On April 18, 18-year old employee of Foxconn working only for a month threw himself off the roof of the manufacturing plant. In March, 23-year old Lui also comitted suicide.

Taipei Times released another recent piece of news stating that same incident happened again on the manufacturing plant of Foxconn company. According to the investigation, the female worker Ju comitted suicide after completing her daily working hours. Foxconn is trying to push the thought that the problem behind the suicide was personal emotional problems but the company won't be able to get away without suspicion. This is sixth suicide in the year 2010 from Foxconn company.
In 2006, 180 employees of Foxconn were poisoned on the same day.
Another interesting fact, last year a 25-year old Sun Danyoung lost a prototype of iPhone, in result he threw himself off the 12 floor of Foxconn building. No one knows for sure what was going through his head or what kind of consequences could lead for "losing" a product. The family has been compensated in large sum of money, around $44 thousand dollars and Sun's girlfriend received an Apple laptop.

Modern cars prone to hacker attacks?

The reality is that everyone knows their computer is open to any hacker attacks so users are equipping themselves with the best anti-virus applications out there. But, how about the new cars with built-in computers which are responsible for almost all the functionality in the car? The following tests showed some interesting results which should be taken into consideration by car manufacturers.

Fortunately, this type of hack is very difficult and requires advanced programming knowledge so the risk is minimal at the moment. Researches from Washington University and California University in San-Diego demonstrated a few details worth to take note of by the car manufacturers. Using a laptop with specially designed application the researches managed to take control over the car's main frame. During the tests researches demonstrated the ability to disable breaks and turn off the engine while the car is in motion.

The major problem is that modern cars have numerous system ties and functions which are responsible for performing a specific tasks using a special controller. The controller is located under the front panel of the car, if the device is connected to it then the device would be easily noticeable. But the key problem here is that the researches have proof that access to the main frame can be connected from other locations as well, such as the internet. No details of the actual actions to perform these hacks have been released.

Stefan Savage - one of the researchers pointed out that the issue with computer main frames in the car is similar to the times computers became to spread around the world in result more and more holes were found to hack computers. The problem in this case is that we're talking about people's lives which are put to danger if anyone decides to hack the car's main frame computer system. Stefan Savage recommends car manufacturers to re-think their protection strategy to ensure the system is fully protected.

Computex 2010: new Acer laptop with Chrome OS

Acer, third largest global computer production company has announced that in the second half of 2010 the company will release new laptop computers under Chrome OS from Google. But, recent rumors indicate that Acer is planning to make the release sooner than expected. By "soon" we mean close to next month a lot earlier than expected. Also, Google announced that first netbooks with Chrome OS will be available close to the end of 2010.

It's highly possible that the new Chrome OS will be presented in the near Computex 2010 which will be held on June 1, 2010 until June 5, 2010 in Taiwan. Chrome operating system has been officially presented by Google back in January. The operating system has been developed to ease the use of various netbook applications and utilities among online users, things like: networking, office and multimedia applications. Google indicates the load time will not go over 5 seconds.

President Jim Wong of the Acer company made a statement indicating that the company is working hard to be the first among competition to release netbooks with Chrome OS and distribute around one million products in the year 2010.

It's safe to say that Acer will be the first company to release netbooks with Chrome OS but competition like ASUS, Samsung and Lenovo won't be far behind. Also, rumors indicate that operating system may take the name Chronium instead of Chrome OS.
